Idaho Minimum Wage Calculator
Idaho’s general minimum wage is $7.25 per hour, and its eligible tipped cash floor is $3.35. A 40-hour covered week is $290 gross before tips. Although the general rate matches the federal floor, Idaho’s tipped cash amount is higher than the federal $2.13 amount.

Overtime uses the full regular rate before subtracting a permitted tip credit. The employer must cover a weekly tip shortfall within the selected scope. This floor scenario does not calculate pay at a higher agreed rate. Per-workday pay divides the week by the days with hours. Annual figures repeat the rounded weekly result.

Use the $3.35 cash floor for an Idaho-covered tipped job
The difference between $7.25 and $3.35 is a maximum $3.90 credit per hour. Idaho’s guide defines tipped employees as those customarily and regularly receiving more than $30 monthly in tips. The employer must establish the tips actually received and cover a shortfall. Only tips retained after a sharing arrangement count toward this employee’s credit. At 40 hours, cash before a shortfall is $134. With $100 retained tips, the employer must add $56 to reach $290. With $200 retained tips, no adjustment is needed and combined gross is $334. Using the federal $2.13 cash floor here would understate Idaho’s initial cash requirement by $48.80 for that week.
| Idaho covered scenario | Employer cash before shortfall | Retained tips | Shortfall payment | Total gross |

| 40 hours, full cash | $290.00 | $0 | $0 | $290.00 |
| 40 tipped hours, low tips | $134.00 | $100.00 | $56.00 | $290.00 |

Keep separate workweeks separate, even on a two-week paycheck
Idaho’s labor agency explains that ordinary federal overtime applies after 40 hours and that weeks cannot be averaged together. For example, a covered worker with 48 hours in one week and 22 in the next has eight overtime hours in the first week. Enter each week separately. At $7.25, those two full-cash results are $377 and $159.50, for $536.50 combined. Treating all 70 hours as straight time would produce only $507.50. Idaho DOL workweek example.
In the 45-hour tipped example, the full-rate wage requirement is $344.375 before rounding. Subtract the supported $175.50 credit to obtain $168.875 employer cash, rounded to $168.88. The overtime premium uses $7.25 before the credit; it does not multiply $3.35 by 1.5.
The under-20 introductory rate is a separate exception
Idaho’s official FAQ lists a $4.25 rate for a qualifying new employee under age 20 during the first 90 consecutive calendar days. This is a specific exception, not a rate for every young employee or every first 90 workdays. The adult-floor calculator excludes it, along with agricultural and other statutory exceptions. Annual pay and border comparisons
Forty hours for 52 weeks produces $15,080 gross, averaging $1,256.67 monthly. Thirty hours for 20 weeks produces $4,350. Adjust the weeks to match the actual scenario; the calculation does not estimate taxes, deductions or a household budget.
