Overtime uses the full regular rate before subtracting a permitted tip credit. The employer must cover a weekly tip shortfall within the selected scope. This floor scenario does not calculate pay at a higher agreed rate. Per-workday pay divides the week by the days with hours. Annual figures repeat the rounded weekly result.

Reviewed rate period: 2026-01-01 through 2027-12-31. Gross earnings before taxes or deductions. Annual figures repeat this weekly scenario; they do not combine different rate periods.

Reviewed October 3, 2026 against the U.S. Department of Labor’s July 2026 state wage table, Tucson Labor Standards Unit, and Flagstaff Office of Labor Standards. Arizona’s statute permits higher local minimums; the national table does not list city rates. §23-364(I).

The weekly and annual comparison uses full cash wages with no tip credit and no overtime. These are gross figures, not take-home pay. An address outside city limits does not acquire a city rate merely because its mailing address names that city.

Arizona indexes the statewide minimum each January, and Tucson’s schedule also changes on January 1. As of October 13, 2026 this site has not confirmed a 2027 statewide figure on the Industrial Commission’s own page or a 2027 rate on Tucson’s city page, so for work dates from January 1, 2027 the calculator asks for the amount on the official notice instead of projecting one. Arizona state coverage: a small business is not automatically exempt

The state exemption requires both annual revenue below $500,000 and exemption from the federal minimum-wage requirement. The statute’s definitions also exclude work for a parent or sibling, casual babysitting in the employer’s home, and employment by Arizona or the United States. Check actual coverage before using the state-floor option. §23-362: employee, employer and small-business definitions.

Tucson: verify the city boundary and qualifying hours

Tucson’s 2026 poster describes coverage when an individual works at least five hours within city limits in a workweek. Its general web summary uses “per pay cycle.” If your schedule qualifies under only one description, confirm with the city Labor Standards Unit before checking coverage. Use the city’s linked MapTucson tool to check the worksite boundary. State, federal, and tribal employers have separate exclusions. City guidance and boundary map; 2026 city poster.

Tucson’s poster defines a tipped employee as customarily and regularly receiving more than $30 per week in tips. A permitted credit is at most $3 per hour, leaving $12.45 cash before any required shortfall payment. Do not substitute the federal monthly-tip threshold for that city test.

Flagstaff: no tipped-wage discount in 2026

Flagstaff’s rule covers individuals who work, or are expected to work, at least 25 hours within city limits during a calendar year. Since January 1, 2026, tipped employees receive the full $18.35 minimum before tips. The calculator rejects tip-credit mode for Flagstaff. The city has announced $18.95 for January 1, 2027; the calculator applies that dated successor from January 2027. Flagstaff rates and coverage.

Tip shortfalls and overtime at the statewide floor

Arizona allows up to $3 in tip credit when the conditions are met and records show sufficient wages plus tips each workweek. At 40 hours and $100 in retained tips, $486 cash plus tips leaves a $20 shortfall; the employer owes that additional $20 to reach $606. §23-363(C): state tip-credit rule and record requirements.

For a federally covered, nonexempt tipped worker at the $15.15 state floor, 45 hours create $719.625 in wage requirements before the permitted credit. A $135 credit leaves $584.625 employer cash, rounded to $584.63, if tips cover the credit. With $200 in tips, total gross is $784.63. Overtime uses the full applicable minimum as the regular-rate floor, not 1.5 times the reduced cash wage. DOL handbook, sections 32 j 01 and 32 j 18.

The model assumes one covered tipped occupation and confirmed notice/pooling requirements. A higher agreed wage, bonuses, compulsory service charges, multiple jurisdictions in the same week, or overtime exemptions require additional payroll treatment.

Check neighboring workplace rules

A shift worked in another state uses that workplace’s rate and coverage: California minimum wage, Nevada minimum wage, Utah minimum wage or New Mexico minimum wage. For Arizona itself, the city selection is more useful than a single statewide ranking.
