Overtime uses the full regular rate before subtracting a permitted tip credit. The employer must cover a weekly tip shortfall within the selected scope. This floor scenario does not calculate pay at a higher agreed rate. Per-workday pay divides the week by the days with hours. Annual figures repeat the rounded weekly result.

The monthly tip threshold is more than $135

The regulation requires tips exceeding $135 in a month before a tip credit can apply. A single week’s tips do not establish that monthly condition. Confirm eligibility separately, then enter the actual retained tips for the workweek. If the condition is not satisfied, select full cash wages before tips. Monthly eligibility and employer shortfalls.

The overtime example keeps the credit at $4.42 per hour. The premium is based on the full regular rate, not 1.5 times $2.83. Mandatory service-charge distributions, bonuses or a higher wage can change the regular rate and fall outside this floor scenario. Federal tipped overtime and service charges.

Supporting work can reduce eligible tipped hours

Pennsylvania limits the credit for duties that support tipped service. Work beyond its 20% supporting-work allowance needs full minimum cash, and work outside the tipped occupation cannot use the credit. Keep task records before deciding which hours qualify. This tool’s tipped scenario requires every entered hour to qualify; it does not allocate mixed-duty hours. Pennsylvania’s 80/20 examples.

For example, the agency describes 30 hours including nine hours of supporting work: six supporting hours fit the 20% allowance, but three need full cash. Applying the credit to all 30 would omit $13.26 of base employer cash before any further tip-shortfall adjustment. Do not split a week into separate calculators if that would lose overtime on total hours.

Card-processing fees cannot be deducted from tips

Pennsylvania prohibits charging workers a credit-card or other noncash transaction fee against their tips, even when the worker receives full minimum cash. Enter tips retained under a lawful arrangement; an improper fee is not a legitimate reduction. If a customer tips $20 by card, a 3% processing fee cannot turn that tip into $19.40. Payment-processing restrictions.

Count worked hours separately from leave and pay periods

Ordinary overtime applies after 40 working hours in a workweek. A biweekly paycheck does not permit averaging 45 hours in one week with 35 in the next. At the full floor, those weeks total $598.13 after weekly rounding; paying 80 straight-time hours would give $580. A qualifying hospital or residential-care 8-and-80 agreement uses different rules and is excluded here. Overtime and healthcare arrangements.

Full-time and part-year earnings

Forty hours for 52 weeks gives $15,080 gross, averaging $1,256.67 monthly. Twenty-four hours for 48 weeks gives $8,352. These amounts exclude tax withholding, benefit deductions and paid leave; they are not take-home pay. Confirm any higher agreed rate before comparing your paycheck with a minimum-floor result.
