Overtime uses the full regular rate before subtracting a permitted tip credit. The employer must cover a weekly tip shortfall within the selected scope. This floor scenario does not calculate pay at a higher agreed rate. Per-workday pay divides the week by the days with hours. Annual figures repeat the rounded weekly result.

Reviewed rate period: 2026-01-01 through 2027-12-31. Gross earnings before taxes or deductions. Annual figures repeat this weekly scenario; they do not combine different rate periods.

40-hour week$600$610.40
45 hours with federal overtime$712.50$724.85

Nebraska coverage is more specific than “every employer”

The state definition generally reaches employers with four or more employees at one time and has an exception for seasonal employment lasting no more than 20 weeks in a calendar year. Public employment, agriculture and other listed occupations also have exclusions. This calculator requires confirmed ordinary private employment under the state minimum and FLSA overtime rules. § 48-1202 definitions and exclusions.

An excluded state job can still have federal coverage, an agreed wage or another requirement. The checkbox is a scope confirmation; selecting it does not decide coverage. The overtime model uses the ordinary federal 40-hour workweek, with no bonuses, commissions or multiple hourly rates. Federal overtime explanation.

At $2.13 tipped cash, the shortfall can be substantial

Forty hours gives $85.20 employer cash before adjustment. With $400 retained tips in 2026, the employer must add $114.80: $200 employer cash plus $400 tips equals $600. In 2027 the same hours and tips require a $125.20 adjustment, bringing combined gross to $610.40. NDOL tipped-pay requirement.

At 45 hours and $700 tips in 2026, direct cash including the overtime premium is $133.35 and combined gross is $833.35. The credit does not multiply on overtime hours. Federal eligibility, including required notice and retaining tips except for a valid pool, must be satisfied wherever federal law applies. Federal tip-credit rules.

The July 2026 law changed the youth and future increase rules

LB 258 took effect July 18, 2026. The amended adult schedule uses a 1.75% increase each January starting in 2027. Use the current published rate rather than extending an older CPI-based description. Amended § 48-1203.

The same statute permits a $13.50 youth rate for non-emancipated 14- and 15-year-olds. The separate training provision covers certain non-emancipated workers ages 16–19, excluding seasonal and migrant workers, with a 90-day period and further conditions. It lists $13.50 through December 2026 and 1.5% subsequent annual adjustments. These categories are outside this adult calculator. Training wage and limits.

Planning a partial year at the adult floor

At 2026 rates, 25 hours for 48 weeks produces $18,000 gross, or $1,500 averaged across 12 months. A 40-hour, 52-week scenario produces $31,200. Tax withholding, unpaid absences and actual tips can change take-home pay; this tool reports employer cash and tips separately so they can be reconciled with payroll.
