Mississippi Minimum Wage Calculator

Mississippi has no separate state minimum-wage law. The federal $7.25 hourly minimum applies to covered employment. This calculator checks ordinary weekly pay, overtime after 40 hours and a permitted tip credit only after you confirm federal coverage.

Overtime uses the full regular rate before subtracting a permitted tip credit. The employer must cover a weekly tip shortfall within the selected scope. This floor scenario does not calculate pay at a higher agreed rate. Per-workday pay divides the week by the days with hours. Annual figures repeat the rounded weekly result.

MDES and the Wage and Hour Division handle different issues

Mississippi’s employment agency directs minimum-wage and overtime inquiries to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division. An unemployment claim submitted through MDES is a different process. For a pay concern, gather the employer’s name, workplace, workweek dates, hours and wage records, then use the wage-enforcement route identified by MDES. Official Mississippi agency directory.

The required-posters page also links the federal FLSA minimum-wage notice. A workplace poster helps identify the governing information, but it does not decide whether an individual job qualifies for an exemption. MDES required posters.

How federal coverage affects a Mississippi job

Coverage can arise through the employer’s enterprise or the employee’s own work in interstate commerce. A small employer’s revenue alone does not rule out individual coverage. Hospitals, schools and certain other enterprises have separate coverage rules. This form does not return a purported legal minimum for an uncovered job; its confirmation is required before any result appears. DOL Fact Sheet 14.

Track the workweek even if pay arrives twice monthly

A 48-hour week at the federal floor produces $377: $290 for the first 40 hours and $87 for eight overtime hours. A following 32-hour week produces $232. Together they total $609. Averaging the two weeks to 40 hours would show only $580, understating overtime by $29. The payroll deposit interval does not redefine the fixed workweek. Federal overtime workweek rules.

Hours actually workedFull-cash weekly grossGross for 50 repeated weeks
24$174.00$8,700.00
32$232.00$11,600.00
40$290.00$14,500.00
48$377.00$18,850.00

The $2.13 service cash rate requires an eligible credit

At 32 eligible tipped hours, employer cash before adjustment is $68.16. With $100 retained tips, another $63.84 is due from the employer to bring combined gross to $232. With $250 tips, no shortfall is due and combined gross is $318.16. Full notice, eligible service work and lawful retention or pooling remain conditions of claiming the credit. Federal tip-credit requirements.

For 48 eligible tipped hours with $300 tips, employer cash is $131.24 and combined gross is $431.24. That cash includes the overtime premium calculated from the full $7.25 regular rate before subtracting the unchanged $5.12 hourly credit. Compulsory service charges and mixed non-tipped duties require a separate calculation.

A border-state rate is tied to the workplace

A Mississippi resident commuting into Arkansas should review Arkansas’s coverage and wage rules for that employment. Work across the other borders also needs the correct coverage review: Alabama minimum wage, Louisiana minimum wage or Tennessee minimum wage. A shared dollar rate does not establish that two jobs have the same overtime, contract or exemption terms.

The annual output repeats the chosen weekly scenario before taxes. Use actual expected working weeks for seasonal or interrupted employment; it is not a promise of scheduled hours, after-tax income or unemployment benefits.
