Overtime uses the full regular rate before subtracting a permitted tip credit. The employer must cover a weekly tip shortfall within the selected scope. This floor scenario does not calculate pay at a higher agreed rate. Per-workday pay divides the week by the days with hours. Annual figures repeat the rounded weekly result.

Florida’s two 2026 rates, and what happens in 2027

Work datesFull hourly floorEligible tipped cash floor40-hour gross before tips
September 30, 2025–September 29, 2026$14.00$10.98$560.00
September 30, 2026–December 31, 2027$15.00$11.98$600.00

The scheduled $1 steps finish at $15. Florida calculates the first subsequent inflation adjustment in September 2027 for effect on January 1, 2028. There is no scheduled $16 step in September 2027. Florida Constitution, Article X § 24(c).

The date selects one rate for the entire modeled week. A payroll week containing work both before and after September 30 needs the hours split by effective rate, followed by an overtime calculation for the whole week. Do not use either single-rate result as the complete transition-week payroll.

How much is $15 an hour per week, month and year?

A 40-hour week is $600 gross; repeating it for 52 weeks gives $31,200, or a $2,600 monthly average. The comparable $14 scenario is $560 weekly and $29,120 annually. The $2,080 difference compares two full years at constant rates; it is not the increase in every employee’s calendar-2026 earnings.

Use the weeks field for a seasonal or part-year schedule. Twenty weeks of 30 hours at $15 produces $9,000. These are earnings before payroll taxes, insurance and other deductions, not take-home pay.

The tip credit remains $3.02 when the minimum rises

Florida’s constitution ties the allowed credit to its 2003 federal amount. Subtracting $3.02 from $15 produces $11.98 cash; subtracting it from $14 produces $10.98. The credit can be used only for an eligible tipped employee under the applicable conditions. Article X § 24(c), tipped employment.

For a 40-hour week at the new rate, $479.20 employer cash plus $100 retained tips is $579.20. The employer must add $20.80 to reach $600. If retained tips are $200 instead, no shortfall payment is needed and total gross is $679.20. Enter tips after lawful pooling; compulsory service charges are not entered as voluntary tips.

Overtime at the new floor is $22.50 before the credit

For an ordinary covered nonexempt job, 45 hours at the $15 floor requires $712.50 before tips: 40 × $15 plus 5 × $22.50. With a supported $3.02 credit on all 45 hours, employer cash is $576.60 before any shortfall. At $200 retained tips, combined gross is $776.60. The tipped overtime cash amount is $19.48 per hour; it is not 1.5 times $11.98. DOL guidance on state wage floors and tip credits in overtime.

Coverage follows the job, including Pensacola and other Florida workplaces

Florida’s implementing statute ties eligibility to entitlement under the federal minimum-wage rules and incorporates specified federal exemptions. The calculator therefore asks you to confirm ordinary coverage. A salary label does not, by itself, establish an overtime exemption. Public-contract requirements, special exemptions and higher agreed wages need their own review. Florida Statutes § 448.110(3).

The displayed rate is the statewide floor, including covered ordinary work in Pensacola. Someone who lives in Florida but works across the border should review Alabama minimum wage or Georgia minimum wage coverage for that workplace instead of carrying Florida’s rate into the other state; a job farther up the coast falls under South Carolina minimum wage coverage.
